Fias Company from New York contacted us looking to end their tour in Philadelphia. They were performing a puppet version of "The Metamorphosis" by Franz Kafka and the venue that we found for them was Kaffa Crossing, an Ethiopian fair trade café in West Philly. Hence the event's title Kafka at Kaffa. Local celebrity Tim Dunn augmented the evening with a reading of "The Bucket Rider," also by Franz Kafka.

About Kafka @ Kaffa:

Kaffa Crossing is a small place and we were expecting a small crowd on a chilly Wednesday in late December. However due to the event being featured by the Philadelphia Inquirer and so many people being familiar with the story (English teachers love to assign it—what grade were you in when you first read it?) the little café was packed beyond capacity and only one third of the audience could see the play. Fias Company remedied this somewhat by adding on a 9:30 performance.
