Every December Puppet Uprising invites puppeteers from all over the country to come perform short pieces in the YEAR-END CABARET. Local artists arrive to sell their wares at our holiday CHEAP ART BAZAAR, and there's always live music and a dance party to end the evening.
Each evening began with MC Morgan F.P. Andrews (SHODDY PUPPET COMPNAY) giving an informative lecture on the history of puppetry and furniture entitled "Behind The Couch!" Beth Nixon (RAMSHACKLE ENTERPRISES) presented several "gestures" toward what her full-length show in February of 2008 might be like. THE MISSOULA OBLONGATA performed "The Sunny Day,” an object theater piece (and impromptu lesson in phonograph record care) about a houseplant's affection for a haphazard vase of flowers. They also performed an experimental theater piece that involved several members of the audience running around the Rotunda while throwing tennis balls. KELLY NESBITT enacted excerpts from "The Crow’s Funeral" in which a giant chicken explains that she had experienced exactly two thirds of her life's menstrual cycles—you do the math! And THE GREAT QUENTINI visited us as he does every December, this time with "The Recalcitrant Cabbage." On Friday night only, we heard the epic tale of garbage barge "Mobro" by TRASH WORSHIP from New York City. Also, THE GIVE & TAKE JUGGLERS brought their dance sensation "Pipo & Pepé" from Barcelona to entertain us at halftime. Boston's EVAN O’TELEVISION joined us on Saturday with "Pavlov," an uproariously hypnotic dialogue between man and TV. There were also short sketches featuring puppets and performance by Sharon Wasko of THE SKEKSES, and live zydeco music by Sweets & Hots.
